William "Bill" Perry: 10 September 1930–27 September 2007
As the scorer of Blackpool’s winning goal in the 1953 “Matthews” FA Cup Final, Bill was immortalised in footballing history. Trailing Bolton Wanderers 1-3 and with only 35 minutes remaining, Blackpool fought back to level the match and Stan Mortensen's hat-trick, inspired by the iconic Stanley Matthews, led Blackpool to a continued attack, with Bill's injury-time goal deciding the game. William Perry, born in South Africa, began his career with his hometown club Johannesburg Rangers and moved to England at the age of 19 to sign for the Seasiders, finding the net regularly. In the 1955-56 season Bill scored 20 league goals, attracting the attention of England manager, Walter Winterbottom, and thanks to Bill's father being a Londoner, he represented England, and scored twice in a 4-1 win against Spain. After retiring, Bill ran a couple of local businesses with his wife Jean, and in January 2007, he was reunited with the FA Cup after 54 years when the trophy was brought to Bloomfield Road. He and Cyril Robinson, the only other surviving member of the cup-winning team, accepted the cheers and applause of an enthusiastic and grateful crowd. Bill died eight months later at the age of 77.
This journey is Muggle Mayhem as this is the main parking area for visitors to Blackpool ... be prepared :+).
Bill's Cache is a Magnetic Key Holder on the bridge. No need to go under the bridge.
