Summer is fast approaching and with it, plans for summer vacation. This year, it just happens that our church convention and GeoWoodstock IX are in Pennsylvania, just 100 miles apart and coincide with the same weekend. Being Geocachers, we HAVE to drive, of course, so we can cache along the way. As we were planning our route, it occurred to me that this might make for a fun puzzle, especially for those not planning to go anywhere this summer. What better way to take a Geocaching summer vacation and save on gas, than to do it VIRTUALLY.

The following puzzle is a VIRTUAL trip across the United States and Europe. You’ll spend six days traveling from cache to cache, three in the United States and three in Europe. As I was planning this trip, I discovered that there are more mysteries in Europe than virtuals, so you will encounter a few mysteries on your European tour.

The object is to do each day by itself and follow the path as you visit the caches listed for that day, in the order of their listing. When you are done, you should have a set of numbers that fit into the pattern N44 37.XXX W123 04.YYY.

Be sure to read the information at each point along the way. Almost every cache listed rates high on the “Favorites” list. Viewing them on GoogleEarth may be of interest as well. You might discover some you’d like to put on a future “real” vacation.

Have fun and enjoy the trip!
