Limpet Lair
These rocks are close to where we have spent many
happy weekends and holidays and have always been popular with my
daughters.
Dulse grows in abundance on the rocks off the
beach and during the Summer months and collectors, including
several TV chefs can often be seen collecting their 'crop' at low
tide.
From the end of the rocks, look left and you get
a wonderful view up the coast to Donaghadee Lighthouse and across
the Irish Sea you can see Scotland, Cumbria, and the Isle of Man on
a clear day. There is a small channel before another rocky outcrop
and at times seals and Harbour Porpoises are seen making their way
along the coast.
The cache is a 80ml cylindrical
container, covered in black tape, with a log sheet in a hiding
place lined with limpet shells. The cache location may be submerged
at particularly high tides or during storms and it is vital that
the cache is returned as you found it into it's hiding
place.
At the parking co-ordinates, pull up fully onto
the wide footpath. Public access to the beach is via a set of
concrete steps.
