#34 From the series ' Chapels in Lesvos '
A small unknown to most visitors of the island , beautiful chapel.
Geocaching brings you to places you would not visit without it.
A small chapel ,that has its sacred place in a small cave. The myth says that a small sized trade ship , many years before today , was in trouble due to the pirates so the captain was praying to God for help.
In the dark night he show a light ,that drove him to a protected place where he founded the icon of Madona and was able to hide his ship also .
He builded a small chapel and named it PANAGIA KRIFTI ,that in Greek means 'Madona hiden' .
At the second Monday after Easter each year there is a local church ceremony , that includes Horse ridding and a unique way of Horse dancing .
That includes also live local music at cofee-shops of the Melinda "vilage" with lot's of ouzo and local food ( meze ). Don't be suprized : The horses move and dance in the middle of coffee shops and I can't recall any accidents all this years I come here.
A. By rented boat from Melinda or
B. By foot or car .You continue the asphalt road from Melinda to Palaioxori for about 500m.
On your left ,on the big U-turn you see a gravel road that goes in parallel with sealine.
The road is not very bad if you drive careffully, you can go very close and walk from N 38 59.767 E 026 17.698 for another 100 to 150 meters down for the cache. Park your car at this point -better prepare it for leaving after , since there is not much space to manouver if any other car comes here (not so likely but ..) - And after that point the road it is only for ATV's or four-wheelers.Continue by foot for about 400m down the well defined path.
Don't stop at the cache ! Continue for sixty meters downgoing and you will see why I have to place a cach here !
One last 'small' detail : on the rocky mountain at west of the cache and about the same height there is a very fainted now path that the children from the western vilages like Vrissa ,Polixnitos and Lisvori where passing every weekend going to the only hischool in southern Lesvos, just few decades of years before now.
Walking with oil lamps in the night for km's .Every Saturday and returning every Monday morning !
Geocaching vás zavede na místa, která byste jinak nenavštívili.
Malá kaplička s posvátným místem v jeskyni. Mýtus vypráví, že v dávné době se malá obchodní loď ocitla v nebezpečí pirátů a kapitán lodi se modlil k Bohu o pomoc.
V temnotě uviděl světlo, které ho dovedlo na chráněné místo, kde našel obraz Madony a mohl svou loď ukrýt. Postavil malou kapličku a pojmenoval ji PANAGIA KRIFTI, což v řečtině znamená "Skrytá Madona".
Každý rok se druhé pondělí po Velikonocích koná kostelní slavnost, s jízdou na koni, unikátním způsobem koňské drezúry a živou místní muzikou v coffee-shopech ve vesnici Melinda, s ouzem a místním jídlem (meze). Nebuďte překvapeni: koně se pohybují a tancují uprostřed coffee-shopů a nemohu si vzpomenout na žádnou nehodu, která by se udála za všechny ty roky, co tam chodím.
A. Půjčenou lodí z Melindy
B. Pěšky nebo autem. Můžete pokračovat po asfaltové silnici kolem 500m z Melindy do Palaioxori. Nalevo ve velké zatáčce ve tvaru U uvidíte prašnou cestu vedoucí podél pobřeží.
Silnice není v tak špatném stavu na auto, pokud jedete opatrně. Dostanete se velmi blízko, pokračujte pěšky dolů od souřadnic N 50° 59.767' E 026° 17.698' dalších 100-150 metrů. Na souřadnicích zaparkujte své auto, nejlépe tak, abyste co nejsnadněji vyjeli ven, není zde moc místa k manévrování, pokud sem přijede další auto. A za tímto místem je jízda možná jen pro ATV nebo 4WD. Pokračujte pěšky tak 400m po dobře viditelné cestě. Nezastavujte u keše! Jděte o dalších 60m dále a uvidíte, proč jsem sem umístil keš!
Jeden poslední "malý" detail: na západě od keše je v přibližně stejné výšce na kamenité hoře vysloužilá cesta, po které před několika stoletími každý víkend chodili děli z vesnice Vrissa, Polixnitos a Lisvori dlouhé kilometry do jediné střední školy na jižním Lesvosu, za tmy a s olejovými lampami.
