Geocache Description:

This is a series of caches around the picturesque village of Merthyr Mawr, one of Chas the Dog's favourite walks.

Riverside paths, woodlands and ancient stones are featured in this fascinating walk through the scenic beauty and history of the Merthyr Mawr area. Merthyr Mawr village is an outstanding collection of thatched cottages surrounded by meadows and woodlands. Stepping stones take you across the river to Ogmore Castle built by the Normans.

The name Merthyr Mawr has connections with St. Myfor and probably means 'The place where St. Myfor was martyred' The church dates back to the 19th century but was built on an ancient site dating back to the 5th century and there are many stones depicting this.

The cache series links into a number of neighbouring cache locations and the series will hopefully be extended over time.

The cache is on (beneath) what is locally called the "Swing Bridge" over the River Ogmore, although it is actually a suspension bridge and doesn't swing. However, it bounces!

It's a nano so it's small, carefully camouflaged and magnetic. This is an area popular with muggles, horses, dogs, muggles with horses, muggles with dogs and muggles with muggles so PLEASE be discreet when searching, retrieving and replacing and replace in the location you found it. You will need to bring a pen to sign the log. When removing/replacing the log - it lives inside the lid, not the actual barrel!

Be careful with children as this is close to the water, although you don't need to get your feet wet. In winter, this river does flood so be careful during and after heavy rainfall.

There is a small car park by the bridge which should serve as a base to park your car for the MM series.

Watch for the rising trout and the kingfishers!
