Geocache Description:

This is part of a series of caches around the picturesque village of Merthyr Mawr, one of Chas the Dog's favourite walks. The cache is alongside a country lane with parking nearby, although vehicles will need to park in field gateways or alongside the road so please don't obstruct for any longer than necessary. Horses form as much of the traffic around here as road vehicles so please don't scare them!

Riverside paths, woodlands and ancient stones are featured in this fascinating walk through the scenic beauty and history of the Merthyr Mawr area. Merthyr Mawr village is an outstanding collection of thatched cottages surrounded by meadows and woodlands. Stepping stones take you across the river to Ogmore Castle built by the Normans.

The name Merthyr Mawr has connections with St. Myfor and probably means 'The place where St. Myfor was martyred' The church dates back to the 19th century but was built on an ancient site dating back to the 5th century and there are many stones depicting this.

The cache series links into a number of neighbouring cache locations and the series will hopefully be extended over time.

This is a small cache that holds a log book, pencil and some goodies. It lives inside a camouflage bag. This area is busy with horses and road vehicles heading to the village and the sand dunes so please be discreet. Be careful of traffic, horses and nettles!

The cache container holds a silica gel sachet so please leave this in the container to ensure contents remain dry.
