Geocache Description:

Please stay out of the roped areas. Please bring pen/pencil to sign logbook.

The vegetation in this part of the coastline is being allowed to grow back to protect the dunes and the Wedgetailed Shearwater birds that nest on the ground in small tunnels as they have done for centuries before humans intruded and predators were introduced such as dogs, cats and mongoose. These birds are native to the Hawaiian islands and can reach a wingspan of 38". From April 1 through December 1 they nest and make eerie wailing moans and can sound like babies crying at night.
They fly far out to sea to catch fish, and fishing boats followed the feeding birds to spot schools of fish and larger fish that preyed on the smaller ones.
Please bring pen/pencil to sign log. Very high muggle area.
