Geocache Description:

This cache brings you to the beach at Termonfeckin/Baltray

Termonfeckin is a small village and townland in County Louth, Ireland. It is within the parish of the same name, and lies north-east of Drogheda. The population of the village was 653 as per census 2006.

History
Tradition has it that a medieval monastery was founded in the village by Saint Feichin of Fore in the 7th century. The monastic settlement was plundered by the Leinstermen and the Vikings in 1013, and also by Shropshire men in 1025; Termonfeckin then became an English ground. The Domesday book also says that since 1059, the Colobeorths were the land holders of it, but in 1149, the monastery was plundered again, and soldiers loyal to Henry II of England ruined the family in 1172. The Colobeorths gave up the land in 1193. The village gained ecclesiastical importance in the late 12th century when an Augustinian monastery was founded in the village. A convent of nuns, also of the Augustinian order, was established shortly afterwards and while the monastery didn't survive, the convent flourished in Termonfeckin up until its eventual closure in 1540, following the Reformation of Henry VIII.

Economy
Termonfeckin is primarily dependent on the farming industry, however tourism also plays a large part, and the proximity of Baltray and Seapoint, with their coasts and golf courses attracts many visitors. Termonfeckin's only manufacturing facility of note is that run by IOSC (Irish Office Stationery Company).

There is ample parking available at N 53° 45.592 W 006° 15.019. It would also be a good opportunity to pick up the "Feckin Beach" cache (GC2NN05) which is nearby.

It is a relatively short walk to the cache along a sandy beach. The terrain rating reflects the fact that there is a dune to scramble up and a small river crossing the beach (hiking boots should be sufficient to avoid wet feet)
The cache is a small tupperware box. This area is very popular with muggles so please take care when retrieving the log. Cache contains log only so please byop. Some of the undergrowth bites back so take care when searching, please replace cache as found and make sure the "cover" is back in place before leaving.

This is part of a series of caches which give the finder the chance to explore the beaches and coastline of the Wee County. Please make sure to take note of the information on the log page as you will need it to find the bonus cache
