There are at least 28 Raven Crags in the Lake District - not counting Ravencragg or Ravens Crags! At 1,520ft this particular Raven Crag is the Wainwright fell which dominates the northern end of Thirlmere where it towers over the dam. It is quite possibly the Wainwright with the highest percentage of tree covered ground. The effort used to gain the summit is well rewarded by the views from the top. The cache is a brown tube containing only a log book – no room for a pencil ! Like all my caches it is a tat fee zone. It is hidden in a very mossy stump. As you’ve made the effort to get up here take a few minutes to visit the nearby cache of ‘Shoulthwaite Shoulder’, which would give a pleasant round in this rather popular corner of the district.
