蛇も蚊も/Jamo Kamo Traditional Cache

The cache is hidden around Namamugi Shimmeisha shrine.
More than 300 years ago, around Namamugi was village of fishermen and no doctors around there. Many people died with contagion diseases. One day, a man dreamed big snake flies over the sea, then diseases stopped.
After the legend, once an year in June (Chinese calendar May 5th), people plait two huge snake with daylily, let them eat evils and disasters in house, finally fight each other, and wash them into sea (now burn them). The strange festival name "Jamo Kamo" (also snake, also mosquito) comes from a phrase men shout while the snakes parade.
The festival continues until now, and specified as intangible cultural heritage. Currently held on first Sunday of June. On the day you can enjoy people plait snakes from early morning, and 3 tons - 15 meters of snake parade through streets of Namamugi.
The cache container is a small tupperware.

キャッシュは生麦神明社付近にあります。
300年以上の昔、生麦は漁村で医者がいなかったそうです。流行病で多数の村人が亡くなりました。ある日一人の男が、大蛇が空を飛んでいく夢を見ると、ぱったりと疫病が収まったそうです。
その後、年に一度旧暦5月5日に、萱で編んだ巨大な大蛇を造り、民家を通して疫病を食べさせ、海に流す奇祭が行なわれるようになりました (現在は燃やしています)。この祭は『蛇も蚊も』 (じゃもかも) とよばれますが、人々が練り歩くときの掛け声からきています。
この祭は無形文化財に指定され、現在は6月の第一日曜日に催されています。午前中に萱で大蛇を編み、午後に3トン・15メートルもの大蛇が生麦界隈を練り歩くのを観ることができます。
