One Friday evening Nigel walks along busy Kwong Fuk Road on the way back home. He's happy. He's just finished a major project at work, all that's left for him is finish the report.
Then his phone rings. He answers: "hello?"
It is his wife, Esther, who just returned from a business trip to Taiwan. "Hi, I'm back at the airport! How's everything for you?"
"Fine, fine. I'm just walking home now", Nigel answered. "Today we finally finished the simulation: it took our fastest computer 22 hours to finish! But it's done, so I'm happy. How was your trip?"
"Normal", Esther answered. "Nothing special. All meetings went as planned, we closed a few deals, business as usual actually. A bit busy maybe, I'm feeling tired. But I'm happy I left last Sunday evening already, check-in was so fast, I timed it at 56.9 seconds: a new record. You missed me much?"
"Of course I did! You were gone for five whole days!"
"No, not that long!" Esther countered. "Almost five days. I left at midnight, came back at 6."
"Yes yes you're right... four days, eighteen hours. You're always so precise when it comes to time time", Nigel answered.
"Well it's part of my work after all... So how's your week been?"
"Well", Nigel said, "It's had it's up and downs. We had major problems with the software - working every evening this week."
"Oh well good I wasn't there to distract you then!", Esther interrupted.
Nigel continued "The first attempt to run the traffic simulation finished in just 7.7 seconds due to a software bug. It was a hard one to fix, took us until Thursday to get that one done, really horrible. After a while all the letters really start do dance in front of your eyes."
"And then?" Esther enquired, "It worked?"
"Sort of! The software passed the tests, and then we started the simulation. But no luck. After 27 minutes it stopped: computer broken."
"Oh no..." Esther replied. "That's bad."
Nigel said "well not too bad. Actually lucky in a way as we were allowed to use another, faster computer, because we had to get it done. So Thursday afternoon we started it, and 22 hours later the result. I'm happy!"
"I can imagine. So all in all you didn't have much time to miss me, right?"
"Well... you want the right answer or the real answer?" Nigel asked.
Esther laughed. "Oh well, never mind. Hey in 9 minutes my bus will leave. Will you get me some dinner?"
"Sure, I haven't had dinner myself. I can wait for you."
"OK, great. See you soon, bye!"
Nigel hangs up, and turns left to Tai Ming Lane square, and walks on towards the market to buy them some dinner.
