82nd Edmonton Pathfinders
Welcome to the cache hidden during the 82nd Pathfinders' geocaching evening.
It is a small matchstick container hidden in an evergreen (what else is new?) on a public pathway. Please remove the lid, not the cache. On Wednesday, May 11th, 10 Pathfinders, 4 senior Guides (they could be Pathfinder wannabes for next year) and 2 leaders learned a little about geocaching. After a short PowerPoint, the girls split into small groups and went searching in the playground for 3 small caches, 2 magnetic micro caches, 1 matchstick micro and 1 special cache. Then the group walked over to Paths in the Woods nearby to find their first "official" geocache. They planted this cache on their way back. It was a jam-packed two hours. While some of the girls had tried geocaching before, for many it was their first experience.
What are Pathfinders?
Pathfinders are the older girls aged 12-14 in Girl Guides of Canada. Guiding provides exciting opportunities to try new things and learn by doing, with other girls the same age. Pathfinders is a program by girls, for girls. Pathfinders learn to take the lead, get involved and help others. They enjoy outdoor activities like camping, hiking, canoeing and geocaching. They volunteer in their community giving their time and energy to something they believe in. No two Pathfinder meetings are alike. They explore new interests like photography, social networking or web design. Pathfinders also offers the chance for girls to travel internationally, particularly to the Guiding World Centres in Mexico, England, Switzerland and India.
