Geocache Description:

Pow-Wow time is the Native American people's way of meeting together to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing of old frienships, and making new ones. (Sounds a little bit like a geomeet) It is a time of renewing thoughts of the old ways and to preserve a rich heritage.

Kinzua Country was home to native americans for many, many moons back in earlier times. Our proximity to the Allegheny River, Conewango Creek, Brokenstraw Creek, Little Brokenstraw Creek, Tionesta Creek, French Creek, Chatauqua Lake, and the Great Lakes made this area part of a vast trade route between many native american tribes. Large indian settlements were present at the confluence of the Brokenstraw Creek and the Allegheny River nearby.

The GeoWoodstock IX committee has chosen to honor that heritage as part of the GeoWoodstock festivities. We invite you to join us for a Campfire Pow-Wow at the Official GeoWoodstock IX Friday Night Meet and Greet event at the Warren County Fairgrounds overlooking the Little Brokenstraw Creek from 6:00 - 9:00 PM.

Lance White Eagle, a native American storyteller from the Cherokee and Rappahannock tribes will provide some insight into the native american culture at our campfire. There will also be food and merchandise vendors present for you to trade with and those registered for the GeoWoodstock event will be able to pick up their registration packets and all the cool swag they ordered in advance of the big event.

You will also be allowed to drop off trackables for the GeoWoodstock Event. You will receive a ticket for each trackable you drop off and can use the ticket on Saturday to pick up trackables at the GeoWoodstock event. This drop off only Friday night will help us get the trackables better organized for Saturday's big event.
