Usserød Creek - A string of experiences

Usserød Creek meanders like a natural and cultural path from Sjælsø until it joins with Nivå Creek in Fredensborg municipality to end in Nivå Bay. The creek has played a central and changing role in the region's development.

The landscape along the creek is very varied. West of the highway the creek is partially hidden in the hilly terrain, and a large part is still marked by a heavy-handed regulation in the mid 1800's. Just east of the highway the creek crosses between two prominent ridges, which emphasizes the forces that formed the landscape of the Ice Age.

From the highway to "Stampedammen" the creek has been brought back to it's original path and is part of a magnificent landscape, Usserød Å Dal (Creek Valley), which is now protected.

The area along Usserød Creek offers many natural experiences and a rich birdlife. Approx. 80 different types of birds have been observed on the short stretch from the highway to Mølledammen (Mill Pond). The diversity of wildlife is supported by the combination of woods, thickets, unsprayed areas, open fields and the running water.

It is therefore possible within a few hundred meters to see kestrels, herons, a small green duck as well as experiencing the nightingale singing in the summer night. (www.dn.dk)
