Ex Crows player Nathan (Hound-dog) Bassett played for Houghton Districts Football club yesterday as a fundraiser.
Houghton Districts Football Club (Raiders) is nestled in the quiet hamlet of Houghton, which is about 5 kilometres east of Tea Tree Gully.
The Houghton Districts Football Club (formerly Banksia Park Old Scholars 1983 - 95) was formed at the Tea Tree Gully Hotel by 3 old school mates. Since its inception the club has won 4 premierships - 1984, 85, 86 and 1999 and producing many great players winning 9 Association Best & Fairest Awards and 2 leading goal kickers
The Houghton Football Club was formed in 1915 and after moving through five different associations, merged with neighbouring Paracombe in 1980 to form Para Houghton. The new club lasted only three years and disbanded at the end of 1982 due to a shortage of players. The Houghton Oval was then taken up by the newly formed Banksia Park O.S. who played there in the S.A.A.F.L. and in 1995 changed its name to Houghton Districts.
Current Norwood coach and ex Adelaide Crow player Nathan Bassett offered his services in an SAAFL auction which was won by Houghton Districts. He played for the club yesterday, kicked 3 goals and was picked as second best player.
Unfortunately Houghton was overrun by Adelaide University in the last quarter and lost by 4 goals.
Nathan donated money raised on the day to the Diabetes Association.
