Geocache Description:

What is that thing?

That is the question I often ask myself when I drive down 87. So today I decided to go look. Turns out to be even more interesting than I had hoped! It is part of the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex "Arsenal Park".

****You will need visit during Museum Hours in order to complete stage 2. Hours are Tuesday thru Saturday 10:00am - 5:00pm and Sunday 1:00pm - 5:00pm. Closed on Mondays. Admisson is Free. No need to go inside, however still needs to be open. You can also check out this website for a calendar of events at the museum to either expierence the event or avoid it while hunting : (visit link) ***

At this location you will need a date from the sign to answer a simple question to get the latitude.

Question One:
What year was the Arsenal destroyed?
Take your answer and subtract 1674.
Use this answer to fill in blank N035 3.___

Now take a few minutes to walk down to the bridge and over to other side of 87 were there the museum is located. If you haven't done so already you can locate another cache on this side called "Here we go again" (visit link) .

Once you have done that you will need to find the Play House that Josephine McCall, a granddaughter of Edgar A. Poe used. Here you will once again need a date to answer a question for the longitude. ****Remember this is only availible during business hours****

Question Two:
What year was the picture taken?
Take your answer and subtract 1271.
Use this to fill in the blank W078 53.___

Now you have your coords! Have Fun!

The following is taken from the sign at the tower.
_______________________________________________
"The northwest tower (1) was the first of the arsenal's four towers to be built (1839-1840) and initially served as the facility's temporary office. The three-story octagonal towers protruded beyond the corners of the main compound and were a defensive feature that allowed flanking fire along the exterior wall.
The Ghost Tower is a semblance of the original brick tower and enables visitors to understand the scale of the structures."

Also while you're in the area check out this website. Learned from museum worker about special geocaches in Fayetteville that are not on gc.com so they won't count towards your numbers but the Hunt is what is all about right? Check it out.. (visit link)
