Zoo Birds Cache. Located in the Arroyo Chico neighborhood. Can drive, bike or walk to this location, plenty of parking nearby. Cache was previously in a storm water run off collection area. Now it is log book only in the little free library. Best to come at dawn or dusk to hear the birds.
We Tucsonans all know the perils of driving down neighborhood streets after a large monsoon storm. Fortunately, the city has been working to construct water collection areas that both beautify local neighborhoods with trees and plants, and help prevent torrents of water flowing down our streets. This site is particularly pretty because it is in close proximity to Arroyo Chico. This Arroyo was not turned into a concrete eyesore--oleanders and palo verdes still line its banks and provide a roosting area for hundreds, perhaps thousands, of grackles (a small, black bird). After a day in search of food (I'm convinced many of these birds forage at the nearby Reid Park Zoo), the grackles come home. A veritable symphony can be heard in the evenings in this area. I suggest finding this cache at dawn or dusk and taking a moment to enjoy the grackle's song.
Note:
This used to be a physical geocache but the container has been damaged isn't easily replaceable. Now it is a log book only geocache.
