Geocache Description:

Ewen Maddock Dam is a beautiful reserve bounded by ferns, tee-tree swamps, eucalyptus and sub-tropical forest. The tracks are well developed, clearly marked, and low gradient – so anyone could walk them, ride a bike, or a horse.

The dam is fed by Addlington Creek on which it was built and overflows into the Mooloolah River. It was built in two stages in 1976 and 1983, and was constructed after a weir built on the Mooloolah River in 1964, failed to keep up with the Sunshine Coasts' rapidly growing population.

The dam has a surface area of 370 hectares and holds 17 000 ML of water at an average depth of 4.5 meters. A 25 metre concrete spillway on the eastern shore controls the water level. It was taken offline in 1989 when the larger Baroon Pocket Dam was completed 11 kms to the west

The closest parking can be found at the end of Gympie St. Nth or the end of Kowald Rd. at Landsborough. Or park at Maddock Park on Moolooloolah Connection Rd and do the whole walk (19km return). Depending on from which direction you tackle this cache and how much rain we've had, you may just get your feet wet.
