Geocache Description:

Ewen Maddock Dam is a beautiful reserve bounded by ferns, tee-tree swamps, eucalyptus and sub-tropical forest. The tracks are well developed, clearly marked, and low gradient – so anyone could walk them, ride a bike, or a horse.

The dam has a surface area of 370 hectares and holds 17 000 ML of water at an average depth of 4.5 meters. It supplied water to the City of Caloundra until 1989.

In 1997, the dam was drained in an attempt to control the exotic Cabomba weed (Cabomba caroliniana) It was later refilled, however the weed is still persistent throughout the dam. Cabomba is a fully submerged aquatic plant that is widely used in aquariums. It is thought that it was introduced by someone emptying a fish tank into the dam. The weed grows extremely fast, producing infestations that reduce the diversity of aquatic plants and animals in the dam.

The closest parking is on Ford Rd (off Tunnel Ridge Rd). Or park at Maddock Park on Mooloolah Connection Rd and walk the whole track (19 kms return).
