Geocache Description:

Ewen Maddock Dam is a beautiful reserve bounded by ferns, tee-tree swamps, eucalyptus and sub-tropical forest. The tracks are well developed, clearly marked, and low gradient – so anyone could walk them, ride a bike, or a horse.

This was the site of the Maddock family residence.
In 1893, it rained for 3 weeks. Thomas and Barbara Maddocks original property was flooded, so their son Ewen selected this site for a new family home. In 1898, with the help of his brother, Angus and a neighbor, he built Koongamoon.....well out of reach of flood waters. Koongamoon means 'Plenty Water' in the local Aboriginal language, as there was a large lagoon nearby the home.

The residence stood beside Ewen Maddock Dam until the late 80's when it fell into disrepair and was demolished. There is a replica of the house at the Koongamoon Recreational Centre opposite the Big Kart Track on Steve Irwin Way.

There is parking available nearby, along with a covered bbq area, swings for the kids and amenities.
