SKA-ATL the OTTER
Life size granite carving on the walking trail along the Anacortes
waterfront, made to honor the river otters who live here and so
graciously share their world with us.
Funded by Anacortes Arts Festival, 2009.
RIVER OTTER
This little feller is carved of Granite, about 4 ft high, and now
lives on the Tommy Thompson Trail, a waterfront park in Anacortes,
greeting walkers, skaters, bicyclers, and now, geocachers, every
day. It is a permanent part of the art collection of the City of
Anacortes WA, and was completely funded by the Giving Committee of
the Anacortes Arts Festival. The festival grants money to artists
and art groups every year to foster and enable the local art
community. River otters are very active on Fidalgo Island, in fresh
and salt water, and they have been important figures in local
Native culture for thousands of years.
The Samish name is
Sqà7atl
pronounced
ska-atl
No need to leave the paved portion of the trail to reach the
cache.
Congratulations to noworrynow for the FTF
