Escape from the hustle of life on this peaceful walk that boasts spectacular coastal and cliff scenery. Start your walk from the stunning white sandy beach of Fortescue Bay and along the way enjoy close up views of glistening waters and impressive large kelp forests.
On the way to the cache you will pass Canoe Bay with its history of the fish processing works and its ship wreck. You will also pass Bivouac Bay with its campsite, fresh water and toilet. Continue on to the cache which is in a place where the views both North and South are unbeatable! Pick your weather and you will see views of The Candlestick, The Lanterns, and Cape Hauy to the south and Thumbs Point and The Fingers and an incredible cliff line to the north.
The walk is a little under 11 km's return and you should allow at least 3-hours return for this trip. NB: Depending on the tide you may get wet feet at the end of Fortescue beach when you cross the lagoon.
The walk is easy with a few ascents and descents but suitable for most fitness levels.
Parts of this walking track are very close to sheer cliffs; therefore it is recommended that children are kept under constant supervision.
Please note that pets are not permitted on this track. Firearms and bicycles are also prohibited and National Park entry fees apply.
The road into Fortescue Bay is unsealed but suitable for 2WD vehicles and at Fortescue Bay there is a camp site, a boat ramp, drinking water and picnic and toilet facilities are available.
The cache itself is a small sistema at the base of a tree and make sure you keep an eye out for a dolphin or seal frolicking in the bays along the way!
