Geocache Description:

A classical music quiz for all. Cache is a short walk from the car park on a public footpath which can be overgrown in summer.

The coordinates are not for the cache site. They are for the (paying) car park in Wylam village. This is a pleasant and popular village on the Tyne just 10 miles West of Newcastle. It is on or near biking and walking routes including the Hadrian's Wall path and Hadrian's Cycleway and its attractions include George Stephenson's cottage (National Trust) and 4 good pubs.

I keep coming across clues, hints and puzzles when caching which require knowledge of the popular music scene. Of this I know nothing. So I thought I would offer a change by setting a puzzle cache based on classical music and opera, which are my interests. The answers will require a bit of easy research. You never know, this might encourage some of you to listen to some of the music referred to.

The cache is at N54 58.ABC W1 49.DEF and this can be decrypted by answering the following.

For A. In Wagner's Ring Cycle (Der Ring des Niebelungen), how many Rhine Maidens are there?

For B. How many players are required for the Saint Saens Opus 65?

For C. The number of the symphony from which the European Anthem is taken

For D. What number is Mahler’s Resurrection symphony?

For E. All Mozart’s work were catalogued by a man called Ludwig von Kochel so the numbers of Mozart’s works are all prefixed with a K. Find the K number for Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflote) and use the last number for E.

For F.How many “last songs” did Richard Strauss leave?

The GZ is quite heavily wooded so you might wish to decrypt the hint before setting off!

You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com.
