Geocache Description:

An Event to celebrate the first ever Geocaching Event as part of Sale Festival. Ten new caches in addition to the plethora of other caches in the area. Welcome to Sale!!

Sale Festival

Each year, Trafford Borough Council go to great lengths to organise a fabulous range of events that, together over a three week period, make up the ever popular Sale Festival. Now in 2011 we have the first ever Geocaching Events at the Festival!!

NEW CACHES

Trafford Borough Council have commissioned the placing of 10 NEW CACHES to celebrate the Festival in the Sale, Sale Moor and Ashton upon Mersey areas. These new caches will be released on Saturday 25th June and are available for experienced cachers and newcomers to enjoy. They will be normal geocaches that remain in place after the Festival is over.

INTRODUCTORY EVENING - JUNE 8th

Keen to encourage newcomers to learn more about Geocaching and get involved in this activity and with the backing of TBC, we're holding an introductory meeting on Wednesday 8th June at Sale Scout Hall, 102-104 Marsland Road, Sale, M33 2NN at 7.30-8.30pm. This meeting is for anyone interested in learning what geocaching is about and the equipment needed. It will be publicised in the local press as well as on the Festival website. We'll run this meeting with temporary hides placed just for the evening that won't be published as geocaches.

If you'd like to join us to help out, you are more than welcome! Please come along to the scout hut at 7.30pm.

MAIN EVENT - JUNE 25th

Cache Hunt - Sale Town Hall, 11am onwards

We'll be running an organised cache hunt for people to try out geocaching for real by searching for some of those newly published Festival geocaches. We'll be there to help them get started and to give support and advice. If you would like to share your enthusiasm and knowledge with others who are just getting started, please do come along. It's also a great way to enjoy finding some of the new caches on the day that they come out in the company of others.

If you'd like to help newcomers find their first ever caches - they may have no equipment, or just need a little encouragement - please meet at Sale Town Hall at 11am.

Social Event - Sale Waterside Pub, 2pm onwards

Following the cache hunt, we'll get together for a regular geocaching Social Event at the Sale Waterside Pub from 2pm onwards. As a special treat, we have the pleasure of Deceangi, who will be holding a Reviewer's Surgery for an hour. So if you have any burning issues to raise with your local Reviewer, save them until then! But hey, go easy... he’s a really nice guy!!

Please state in your 'will attend' log if you also intend to help at the intro evening or the cache hunt walk. Many thanks.

ABOUT SALE

For further historical information about the area, please see Sale on Wikipedia. There are already numerous caches within this area. Please see the Bookmark List for details of caches within the Trafford area. There are many more caches to be found in nearby surrounding areas. You could spend a very long day caching around here!!

A few ‘Housekeeping’ points ... Parking is available at Sainsburys but is chargeable on Saturdays up to a maximum of 3 hours. There is also a multi-storey car park close to the event location. Sale Town Hall and Sale Waterside are opposite Sale Metrolink Station if you have access to this service. The new caches are spread throughout the area and will involve a longish walk around the area or short drives between them. That’s up to you!

Really looking forward to seeing friends again and meeting newcomers
