Beaver dams in northern Lewis County.
EDIT 4/15/2017- So the beaver dams are gone. And apparently so are the beavers. Cache is still in place and in good shape. From the cache location you can still see the evidence of the now-evicted beaver population.
While searching for a Wildlife Management Area, I ran across this series of beaver impoundments. The backed-up water actually blocks one of the access points to the cache area.
We noticed three separate impoundments. Cache is located just off the roadway near what appears to be the most current and presently used dam.
Best access is to start in Jackson's Mill. Cache is located on Right Fork of Freeman's Creek. A high-clearance vehicle can drive right to the cache site. Other vehicles will be better served parking about 3/10 of a mile before the cache location, beside an old beaver dam. The real faint of heart can park near the Dominion compressor station, making for a half mile walk. There is a very shallow creek crossing you must drive through about a mile from the cache.
Cache container is a small lock and lock type container, containg log, pens, pencils and a few trade items.
Some of my caching friends have said I've become obsessed with beaver dams. One in fact has been sending me information on Canada's love for the "Rodent without equal". Well, maybe.....
Congratulations RB&B for making the trek for the FTF!
