Geocache Description:

Easy straight forward cache in a historic area. THERE IS NO NEED TO TOUCH THE ROCK WALL, THE CACHE IS NOT THERE, but close. Park off Main St and on Stone Pound Lane. 8/14/17 time to open this up to all geocaching members, enjoy

Atkinson Town Pound was built in 1788. Town pounds were a part of early colonial history. Stone-walled pounds began to replace wood pounds around 1740. By 1800 stone was the favored building material. Pounds were built to hold animals who had become a problem or that were illegally wandering around loose. Town pounds were in common use from the mid 1600’s to the late 1800’s.
The Atkinson Town Pound is on the corner of Rt 121 and Stone Pound Lane. Please park near the speed limit sign on Stone Pound lane.
Traffic is fast on Rt 121 so I would be careful with children and pets.
