ChickaD: There previously was a rustic trail leading to this cache location which is no longer there. The terrain is now full of chest high praire plants. This cache is being archived and a new cache called Grand River Marsh Prairie will be place along the new walking trail shortly.

Geocache Description:

This cache in the series of Grand River Marsh Birdwatcher caches is to highlight birdlife in the open prairies. This area is home to Song Sparrows, Field Sparrows, Eastern Kingbirds and Meadowlarks. Look for the cute black, white and yellow Bobolinks in the summer. Cache is a medium sized camo plastic container with a log and room for trackables or trade items. Just a short walk from the parking lot. List in your log any interesting bird sightings while caching in the Grand River Marsh Area.

Grand River Marsh Wildlife Area is a 7000 acre property located in SW Green Lake County and SE Marquette County near Lake Puckaway. This area consists of open marsh,emergent cattail wetland, upland prairie, oak savannah and wet meadows. Area Sportsman's clubs in the 1930's and 1940's wanted to turn this area into a wildlife refuge and land acquisition started in 1958. Water levels are managed for quality waterfowl habitat. The Wildlife area is open to hunting. The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to Jim Holzwart,of the DNR in Berlin, Wisconsin. Geocaches placed on Wis. DNR managed lands require permission by means of a notification form.
