Turkey Hill Trail This is a "C" shaped track of land.
It is a nice hike along the cliffs of the Susquehanna River. Mann's
run cuts the trail in half but easy to cross it. It is found along
River Road. Turkey hill Dairy is above the first parking lot and
the road after passing the dairy soon makes a right "L" turn
then park at the Highville Fire hall.
It is a great location to watch for bald eagles, vultures,
ospreys, hawks, egrets, gulls, geese and swans. The birds rest and
feed on the nearby Conejohela Flats year round. The ample supply of
fish and birds is the reason Susquehannock Indians chose to live
and hunt in the area hundreds of years ago. After observing
majestic birds circling on updrafts or gracefully diving toward the
water for fish, hike through the deciduous forest, the world's
largest pawpaw (trees with short, banana-like fruit) patch,
sassafras trees and groves of oak, maple and sweet birch.
Restrictions: No bikes, alcohol, hunting, fishing, camping or
fires. Pets must be leashed. The trail is only open dawn to
dusk.
"The road to success is not straight. There is a curve
called failure, a loop called confusion, speed bumps called
friends, caution lights called family, and you will have flats
called jobs. But, if you have a spare called determination, an
engine called perseverance, insurance called faith, and a driver
called Jesus, You will make a place called success." -
