Well done Elis - a very quick FTF!
Red Hall Lane runs between the A539 in Higher Penley and the A528 in Knolton, the Welsh English border crosses the lane towards the Knolton End.
Things of interest along the lane:
1. At the Higher Penley end the lane’s name is interesting: on the Penley side of the lane the name reads in both English and Welsh:
Red Hall Lane
Lôn Plas Coch
which seems to be the right Welsh translation.
On the opposite side of the lane (the Overton Side) the name reads in both English and Welsh:
Red Hall Lane
Lôn Llys Coch
slightly more poetic but obviously no-one had checked to see what was normally used! I have only ever heard it called Red Hall Lane in any case!
2. A little further along the lane on the right is Toll Bar Cottage one of the few reminders of the old turnpike road which ran from Overton to Hanmer and Whitchurch.
3. A little further along the lane you will cross an old metal bridge, originally crossing the Ellesmere - Wrexham Branch Line of the Cambrian Railway close to, what used to be “Trench Halt”. This branch of the railway was started in 1892 and completed in 1895. The rail service was interrupted in the World War 2 as the line was used to transport munitions from the Royal Ordnance Factory at Marchwiel. The line was finally closed in 1962. The railway cutting by the bridge has since been flooded and is used as a fishing pit. Further details about the Cambrian Railway and the Turnpike Roads in the area can be found at:

4. The England Wales border crosses the road beyond the bridge. A clue to its location is the difference in road surface - as Shropshire County Council and Wrexham Council do not seem to repair the road at the same time! (There are a few other changes in road surface now due to repairs after the 2010/2011 harsh winter).
