Geocache Description:

Find your way to the Gamekeepers Cottage in the heart of Cockington Country Park. The route up by the side of the cottage is an old hollow way flanked by devon banks and woodland.
Take this route, your GPS reception may falter but should improve as you stride up the significant hill.
When it is time to go off path (near the top and to your left), look for a beech.

Many know this old route as Robbers Lane, although this is refuted by Brian Read in his fascinating book Cockington Bygones (vol. 3). Whichever is true, it is definitely an atmospheric ancient, sunken lane allegedly used by 19th Century smugglers, coming from Paignton and heading for nearby Warren Barn to hide their contraband! All without the connivance of Squire Mallock of Cockington Court.
Allow plenty of time to enjoy Cockington, it is a Country park of great natural beauty, managed by the Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust.

This is one of many official English Riviera Geopark caches hidden at key sites around the English Riviera – a UNESCO Global Geopark. Each cache is located somewhere of significant interest and aims to teach something about this wonderful Geopark.
Geoparks aims to protect geo-diversity and to promote geological heritage to the general public as well as to support sustainable economic development of the area, primarily through the development of geological tourism.
This particular cache was hidden in May 2011 as part of the annual English Riviera Geopark Festival.
