This cache is based around St Marys Church in Barnham. There has been a church on this site since Saxon times and the current building is mentioned in the Domesday book from 1086 and it is likely that the church was given its current name during the same period. The church contains an elaborate rectangular font carved from Sussex marble. The church's white tower was also once considered an important shipping aid for sailors on the English channel.
This church has a great family significance to us as many events such as christenings, weddings and funerals have been carried out here and many family members are resting within the churchyard.
In order to find this cache, you are required to search the churchyard and find the answers to the questions below before putting the answers into the following key: N 50 49 ABC W 000 38 DEF
You will then have the final co-ordinates which will take you less than half a mile away to the cache location.
There are a few parking spaces available at the church if you are arriving by car.
So, to find the co-ordinates, solve the following clues: There is a blue sign to the right of the churchyard entrance containing general infomation about the church.
There is a family service carried out on the second Sunday of every month.
Add together the digits of the time for this service = A.
Next, search the lychgate for a year.
The last digit of this year will give you B (Ie, 193B).
Just inside the churchyard you will find a 'wooden tribute' to Audrey Assheton. There are some years engraved, the second digit of the first year will give you C (Ie, 1C28).
Next, proceed along the wall on the southern side of the churchyard until you find a gravestone set in to the ground under a tree dedicated to Sylvia Pollington.
The third digit of her year of birth will give you D (Ie, 19D0). Next to Sylvia, you will find Christine Jeffereys.
The first digit of her month of birth will give you E. Finally, proceed to the northern side of the churchyard near to the fence where you will find a gravestone topped with two hearts dedicated to Robert William Robinson.
The final digit of the year of his death will give you F (Ie, 200F).
You should now have all the co-ordinates needed to find the cache.
