Another in the Bowling Memories series
This cache is the fifth of a series of caches that will be at or near locations of bowling centers in NJ that are no more. Each location will start with some stories and hopefully some pictures from back in the day when they were vibrant bowling centers and not the office complexes, parking lots, or worse yet, landfill that you see today. Please add your stories and/or pics to keep their MEMORIES alive!
Memory Lanes formerly know as Red Bank Lanes was a throwback to the old school bowling centers. Above ground ball returns, support poles scattered throughout the center to keep you from, well, bowling on the roof. My memories of Red Bank Lanes/Memory Lanes include being in the Monmouth County Junior Travelling League. We got there a few hours early to practice with our camcorder on a tripod to help see what we were doing and how to get better at bowling. Geocachers around my age will remember the early days of the camcorder that used VHS tapes and were basically like putting a VCR on your shoulder.
In the early morning of June 5, 2009 Memory Lanes was tragically taken away by fire. There have been hints and rumors that there might be a new bowling center going up in its place, but that has yet to come to fruition.
