Geocache Description:

I remember the original steel bridge that was located where the current wooden footbridge is located. The steel bridge had railway lines which ran along the open top of the bridge, the body of the bridge formed three or four hoppers with trapdoors on the underside of the bridge. I could only imagine that this was some kind of rail delivery system to load trucks on the road below.

When I was a kid we used to risk our lives tightrope walking along the rails to cross the bridge. I hate to think of the outcome if we had slipped or fallen from the rails as we crossed.

The land to the right of the path from this point forward was the location of the Iron Ore Works. The main building was still standing in the 1970’s with a number of surrounding chimneys which were connected by underground flues. One of the main features of the building was a large clock tower.

The chimneys were demolished in the 1980’s, the main building was converted into a warehouse and was later demolished in the early 1990's.

This cache is hidden next to the bridge and can be reached from the bridge. No need to climb over or through any of the handrails.
