This is an interesting historical spot along the Little Miami Scenic Trail. You are standing at the site where the Oregonia Road Bridge once spanned the Little Miami River. This bridge was a lenticular truss bridge, so named because each of its trusses was in the shape of a lens (see the pictures above and below). The bridge was built by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company (of Berlin, Connecticut) in 1883. The bridge was closed to traffic in the early 1990s and collapsed on March 12, 2001.

When I first moved to this area in 1996, the bridge was still here but was open only to pedestrians and bicyclists. I remember watching kids jump off the bridge and down into the river (a very dangerous thing to do since the river depth varied greatly along the bridge and there were rocks and rubble in some places under the bridge) (also notice the sign on the bridge in the first photo).

The bridge may be gone now, but you can still stand on this overlook and get a nice view of the river. Enjoy!
