L'incidente di Voltri
L'11 aprile 1991 alle 12:30, durante il travaso del carico da prua a centro nave, si verificò un'esplosione che fece saltare cento metri di coperta nella parte prodiera, in un braccio di mare di 94 metri davanti a Voltri (44°22′09.23″N 08°45′01.71″E).
Nell'incidente morirono quattro membri dell'equipaggio ed il comandante.
Durante la notte la nave in fiamme si spostò al largo in direzione di Savona.
Il mattino del 13 aprile altre esplosioni scossero il relitto.
L'affondamento
Alle 9:30 del 14 aprile la petroliera concluse la sua agonia con un'ennesima esplosione, che la fece affondare ad un miglio e mezzo dal porto di Arenzano, tra Arenzano e Cogoleto, su un fondale di 80 metri (44°22′25.75″N 08°41′59.58″E).
L'inquinamento della costa
Nei giorni seguenti l'incidente, nonostante l'intervento di una eterogenea flotta di mezzi navali in missione anti-inquinamento, ci furono importanti spiaggiamenti di greggio da Arenzano ad Albissola Marina.
Fu il più grave disastro ecologico nel mar Mediterraneo. Bruciarono circa 90.000 tonnellate di petrolio greggio delle 144.000 presenti al momento dell'incidente oltre alle circa 1.000 tonnellate di carburante. Una parte del carico, stimata in una quantità compresa tra 10.000 e 50.000 tonnellate, inquina tuttora gli alti fondali tra Genova e Savona.
Il relitto
Giace oggi a 80 metri di profondità. Le due bonifiche di rilievo sono state quella del 2003 e quella del maggio 2008, attualmente classificata come "definitiva", comprendente il monitoraggio complessivo dello stato del relitto e il pompaggio di idrocarburi residui dai locali interni della nave.
La Palestra Subacquea di Arenzano punta a valorizzare il luogo dove da diciotto anni giace la petroliera Haven. Realizzata nelle acque antistanti il porto turistico, la struttura è di facile accesso e rappresenta un innovativo esempio di impianto sportivo subacqueo in un ambiente naturale (unico al momento in Italia).
CACHE
Parcheggiate l’auto in uno dei parcheggi indicati e percorrete Lungomare Fabrizio De André, la panoramica passeggiata a mare, dedicata al famoso cantautore genovese, che collega Arenzano a Cogoleto utilizzando il tracciato dismesso della ferrovia, lungo circa 2 km.
Il percorso presenta tratti all'aperto e tratti in galleria; la pavimentazione è compatta e stabile e ci sono sedute lungo il percorso. E' pianeggiante e fruibile anche nelle ore notturne, con adeguata illuminazione artificiale, e lo stesso dicasi per i tratti in galleria.
Lungo la passeggiata ci sono fonti d'acqua. E’ presente anche una pista ciclabile.
La difficoltà consiste nel fatto che il tratto è molto frequentato dagli abitanti per passeggiate, jogging, giri in bicicletta.

The accident in Voltri
On 11 April 1991 at 12:30, during the transfer of cargo from the bow to amidships, there was an explosion that blew up one hundred meters above the deck at the bow, in a sea of 94 meters in front of Voltri (44 ° 22'09 .23 "N 08 ° 45'01 .71" E).
Four crew members and the captain died in the accident .

The sinking
At 9:30 on April 14, the tanker ended his agony with yet another explosion that sank about a mile and a half from the port of Arenzano, including Arenzano Cogoleto and, at a depth of 80 meters (44 ° 22'25 .75 "N 08 ° 41'59 .58" E).
The pollution of the coast
In the days following the incident, despite the intervention of a heterogeneous fleet of naval anti-pollution missions, there were major beaching of oil from Arenzano Albissola Marina.
It was the worst ecological disaster in the Mediterranean Sea. They burned about 90,000 of the 144,000 tons of crude oil present at the time of the accident in addition to about 1,000 tonnes of fuel. Part of the cargo, estimated at a quantity of between 10,000 and 50,000 tons, still pollutes the deep waters between Genoa and Savona.
The wreck
Now lies 80 meters of depth. The two major land reclamation have been that of 2003 and that of May 2008, currently classified as "definitive", which includes monitoring the overall state of the wreck and the pumping of oil residues from the interiors of the ship.
The Underwater Gym of Arenzano aims at enhancing the place for eighteen years, the tanker Haven lies. Made in the waters off the marina, it is easily accessible and represents an innovative example of diving in a natural environment (the only one in Italy by now).
CACHE
Park your car in one of the suggested parking areas and walk trough Promenade Fabrizio De André, the scenic promenade, named after the famous Genoese singer-songwriter, connecting Arenzano Cogoleto using the disused railway track, about 2 km long.
The route includes sections in the open and tunnel sections, the floor is compact and stable and there are seats along the route. It's flat and usable even at night, beacause of its adequate artificial lighting and the same applies to the gallery sections.
Along the promenade there are sources of water. It 'also a bike path.
The difficulty lies in the fact that the section is very popular with local residents for walking, jogging, cycling.
