ALOHA from O'ahu

---Byodo-In Temple---

The Byodo-In Temple is nestled at the foot of the Ko'olau Mountains and within the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. It was established on June 7, 1968, to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii. The temple is built entirely without nails and is a scale replica of a temple in Uji, Japan that was constructed in 998 during Japan’s Heian Period.

Byodo-In Temple Hawaii does not host a resident monastic community nor an active congregation. It does welcome people of all faiths to worship, meditate or simply appreciate its beauty. “Byodo-In” means “Equality”.

The beautiful temple grounds are a lushly landscaped paradise that includes a large reflecting pond, meditation niches, and small waterfalls. It is home to wild peacocks and hundreds of Japanese koi carp.  Visitors describe this destination as beautiful, peaceful, and restful. The temple grounds are often used for wedding ceremonies.

The TV series Hawaii Five-O and Magnum PI  featured several episodes where the temple is incorporated into the plot. The temple and its gardens also appeared in season one of the ABC series Lost called "House of the Rising Sun".

This is a solemn, religious area where one should be respectful and quiet while visiting.

Hours 8:30 am-4:30pm daily and there is a small admission fee to enter the grounds. For updated information go to:

https://byodo-in.com/index.htm

You DO NOT need to pay the fee or enter the Temple Grounds to find the cache.
