Trekker's Perch Traditional Cache

While trekking the rugged, abandoned road to the King of the Hill cache, we discovered a rocky outcropping about halfway up. It is a great stopping place to catch your breath, enjoy the views, and now to find a cache.
In Memory of our sweet dog, Trekker.

He lives forever in our hearts.
Often while we search for caches, our dog, Trekker, perches on a nearby rock to bask in the sun and catch some shut-eye. Sometimes his perch ends up within inches of the cache. Look at Trekker’s picture on this cache page, and you might discover where the pint-size cache is hidden.
A good-size parking area off of SR 87 is available between MP 288 & 289. It is at the bottom of Slate Hill north of Mount Ord. It is best accessed from the northbound lanes. Look for the green road sign that says Rye 13 and Payson 24 (miles). Turn in there.
To reach the cache, trek about 1.25 miles along the abandoned road. This rugged road off of SR 87 was once a well-maintained dirt road up Mount Ord, suitable even for passenger cars. But with the re-routing of SR 87, the road’s been abandoned, neglected and replaced by the present-day Mount Ord road at the top of Slate Hill. Today this rugged road is best suited for hiking, biking, horses or quads. Enjoy the trek!
