A location that few know the history behind. This location first started as a Civilian Conservation Corps camp in the 1930's and 1940's. It even had a library and facility to play cribbage, basketball, chess, football and fencing. But in 1942, the CCC was placed on war status. In 1943 the CCC camp tuned into a prison camp. German prisoners of war arrived to help with the sugar beet harvest. Around 435 prisoners arrived in September and 385 more arrived in October. After the war the prisoners were sent home and the camp was closed, but this old gate remains.
