Please respond to this situation promptly (i.e., within 30 days) to prevent the cache from being archived for non-responsiveness. Please note that caches archived by a reviewer or HQ due to maintenance issues and/or non-responsiveness by the cache owner are not eligible to be unarchived.

As a cache owner, you are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to ensure it is in proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.), or posts a Needs Maintenance log. The following link is provided for your convenience: Cache Maintenance Guideline

I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in approximately 30 days to ensure that maintenance has been done. Whatever your intentions, please post a note here on the cache page to indicate that you are still active and maintaining the cache. Please do not post an owner maintenance log unless you have repaired or replaced the cache. If a month passes without a response, I'll assume this listing should be archived. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by selecting "Enable" from the drop-down list under "Log geocache."

Geocache Description:

The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.

The Barton Cemetery is a private facility, and although it features a spiffy historical marker that name-drops Ben Milam, access is evidently restricted. You can see the front of this graveyard from the gate marked "Private Property" just off FM 1626, or view it from the side if you go a little ways down the quarry road. However, you need not cross any fencelines to find this cache, which is hidden, in a very loose sense of the word, a few hundred feet away from the cemetery. The site is very nicely maintained, and was formally established in 1881, although there were at least 14 burials prior to that date, with the earliest taking place in 1873.

Coordinate corrections are welcomed!
