Meet the Scarecrows - 2011 Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Chens: Well, we haven’t had any logs for a few weeks so we’re thinking that you’ve all written your bits.

Many thanks to all those who attended and made our first event so enjoyable. We had nearly 140 people through the tent of whom over 30 were muggles. Several muggle families and individuals seemed very interested in geocaching and asked some very keen questions. We set up a dummy cache about fifty yards away and let those who were interested find it. Will they sign up? We’ll never know.

Thanks are also due to Howebzar, whose idea it was, for providing the coordinates; Doctor Pat, who spent the whole day in the tent with us, apart from popping off to have a cream tea; Tubachick, who spent some of the day in the tent with us, and also popped off to have a cream tea; Stanthews, for the kind loan of his flag and flagpole; and Arch Cacher, our grandson, who helped us tot up how many people had visited the event.

Several people asked if we would do it again next year. We’ll see…

Geocache Description:

An event cache in the village of Kington Langley, just north of Chippenham,
on Saturday June 11th 2011.

This geocache meet coincides with the Scarecrow event in the village.
We were asked by a local cacher to run this event
to advertise Geocaching to a wider audience.

We shall be on the village green from about 1000 until about 1700.
Bring a picnic; bring the family; bring your friends; make it a smashing day out.
Come and show muggles what Geocaching is all about.

For those who want to do more than just stand around and chat,
there are around 150 caches within five miles of the village green,
with some more going out for this event.

We should like to thank:
Stanthews for the kind loan of his Geocaching flag;
Howebzar for his assistance in setting up this event;
Doctor Pat and Tubachick for helping us run it.
Arch Cacher for helping us tot up the number of visitors.
