Klátovský hrad bol postavený v 14. storocí grófom Jurajom I. Klátovským. Hrad je verejnosti velmi málo známy, pretože nikto netuší, že tá zrúcanina je vzácna historická pamiatka. V 15. a 16. storocí život okolo hradu prekvital a obyvatelia obcí Vyšný Klátov a Nižný Klátov patrili k najbohatším v širokom okolí. Dnes sa však zachovalo len torzo hradu napriek tomu, že nebol nikdy vypálený alebo ohrozený vojenským útokom. Potomok rodu Dromedár II. Klátovský, ktorý bol panovníkom v 17. storocí bol vášnivý pyrotechnik. Neustále experimentoval s horlavinami, trhavinami a výbušninami. Jeden takýto experiment na nádvorí hradu sa stal osudný celému obyvatelstvu hradu, kedy obrovský výbuch rozmetal hrad na márne kusy. Ešte dnes môžeme vidiet velké kusy betónu a kamena povalujúce sa v blízkosti hradu ako dôsledok dávneho výbuchu. Povráva sa, že osudnou trhavinou bola zmes podobná dynamitu, no dokázat sa to doposial nepodarilo. Na hrade je tiež pozoruhodná architektúra a stavebný materiál, ktoré akoby vôbec nepochádzali zo 14. storocia. To všetko len potvrdzuje, aké bolo obyvatelstvo Klátova technologicky vyspelé oproti zvyšku sveta.
Výbuch naštastie nepoškodil poklad, lebo ten ešte Juraj I. ukryl nie v útrobách hradu, ale hore na kopci. Vdaka tomu môžete príst nájst tento poklad a pokochat sa výhladom, ktorý ponúka kopec nad Vyšným Klátovom.
The treasure of the Klátov Castle
The Klátov Castle was built in 14th century by the count George I. Klátovský. The castle is not well known for public because of people do not know that it is a precious historic monument. There was a great blossoming in 15th and 16th century and residents of villages Vyšný Klátov and Nižný Klátov were the ones of the wealthiest in a wide region. However, nowadays there is just a torso of the castle contrary to the castle was never burned or damaged by an attack. Dromedár II. Klátovský, the scion and the monarch in 17th century, was an effusive pyrotechnic. He was permanently experimenting with inflammables and explosives. One such experiment became fatal for all of castle’s residents. The huge explosion blew up the castle into pieces. Even now we can see big pieces of concrete and stones lying near the castle as the result of the distant explosion. People say that the explosive was a mixture similar to dynamite but nobody has proved it yet. The castle is interesting with its architecture and building material which do not look as to come from 14th century at all. Everything just shows that population of Klátov of that time was technologically much more developed than the rest of the world.
Fortunately the explosion did not damage the treasure, because of George I. hid it up on the hill instead of the interior of the castle. Thanks to this fact you can come to find this treasure and see the view which this hill offers.
