A pleasant walk down the River Irwell on good paths, but muddy in parts.

This cache is on the river side of the path, NOT the railway side. There is a good metal fence between the path and the railway. Don't Trespass on the railway. There are frequent trains.
The River Irwell is a 39-mile (63 km) long river which flows through the Irwell Valley in the counties of Lancashire and Greater Manchester in North West England.
It is joined by the River Croal near Farnworth where it turns southeast through Kearsley, Clifton and Agecroft.
The origins of the name "Irwell" are uncertain but many accept the Anglo-Saxon origin, ere-well, meaning "hoar or white spring".
Please note, we (Jolly Crofters) have got written permission from the Rangers from the Bolton Ranger team to place Geocaches in Moses Gate Country Park on the condition that we first inform them of where each of the caches are and get their written permission to go ahead and publish them. Please be careful when searching for the caches as this is a Nature Reserve.
