Geocache Description:

JACKPOT!!! This what we were looking for.

After many hours and 4 miles of searching we found Harris Felsenmeer. It always seems we find the hard way in and the easy way out. Without all the running around we would never find some of the other neat locations we find.

The term felsenmeer comes from the German meaning 'sea of rock'. In a felsenmeer (also known as a block field), freeze-thaw weathering has broken up the top layer of the rock, covering the underlying rock formation with jagged, angular bolders. Freeze-thaw weathering occurs when water that is trapped along microcracks in rock expands and contracts due to fluctuations in temperature above and below the freezing point. Felsenmeers are formed in situ, meaning that they are not transported during or after their creation.

This cache is located a little over a mile from County Road F. The logging trail was flooded most of the way due to all the rain. We were out exploring the Blue Hills for nice areas to place caches and this is a spectacular place. I have always liked how these areas seem to be formed in the middle of nowhere. As you walk in you have no idea that something like this would be out here.

Make sure you add a rock to the pile near the cache location.

The cache is an ammo can filled with goodies. Please take pictures and enjoy this unique scenic area that we are sure you will love.
