Geocache Description:

Cache is at the base of a twisted hawthorn tree. The tree is part of a line of hawthorns, near to the fence, along the south side of Ridgeway trail. The cache is easy to reach, but not easy to see from the trail. There is some overgrowth near the tree.

The cache is a medium, clear clip lock container with a green geocache sticker on the lid. The cache includes an information card on the Chiseldon Cauldrons site, a plastic Black Smith toy with an attached travel bug, and Heritage Lottery Fund and Wessex Archaeology buttons, as well as log book and pencils.

This cache has been created as part of the Celts and Romans in North Wiltshire project. Celts and Romans in North Wiltshire is an archaeology community outreach project. The purpose of the cache is to raise awareness of the Iron Age and Roman archaeology in North Wiltshire by encouraging people to explore archaeological sites. If you find this cache please take some time to go and visit Barbury Castle, an Iron Age Hill fort. Barbury Castle is an easy walk from the cache’s location, it can be accessed via the Ridgeway trail, and as it is part of the public park exploring the site is absolutely free.

This cache has been placed with the kinds permission of Swindon Borough Council.
