Yokoso, Hodogaya!
Potatoes were adopted to Hodogaya from Yamanashi Prefecture in end of Edo period,
and potatoes were developed by an agriculture examination place in Hodogaya in Meiji period.
Potatoes which you are eating now may be made in Hodogaya!
The cache container is presented by stonefree–san.

ようこそ、保土ヶ谷へ！
保土ケ谷区にジャガイモが伝わったのは江戸時代の末期です。
甲州(山梨県)から持ち込まれた瓜蛙薯(じゃがたらいも)は、当初自家用として
栽培されていましたが、栽培方法の改良や、保土ケ谷区にあった県の農事試験場での
研究が進むにつれて、生産が盛んになりました。今の旭区、瀬谷区、南区でも
栽培されるようになった「保土ケ谷いも」は、保土ケ谷駅から北海道をはじめとする
全国へ出荷され、良質な種芋として有名になったのです。
皆さんが口にしている日本各地のジャガイモも、むかし出荷された「保土ケ谷いも」から
育ったものかもしれません。明治期にはジャガイモの価格が下落したことがありましたが、
その救済策として盛んになったのが、ジャガイモを生かした加工商品の
でんぷん(片栗粉)製造業でした。かまぼこの材料として小田原に販売されるなど明治期の
重要な産業となりました。戦後は、都市化の影響などによりジャガイモ自体の生産量が減少。
しかし、現在でも区内で生産される農作物としては一位のキャベツに次ぐ生産量があります。
