Geocache Description:

Pack your streamer trunk for the train ride. Listen you might hear the train. There are many hiking trails in the Farragut / Bayview area that follow the old Railroad bed.

Daniel C. Corbin built the railroad in the area in 1911 as the Spokane International Railroad with a branch line to Bayview. This section was called the Coeur d’ Alene Pend Oreille Railroad. A siding was established just outside present day Farragut Park at Gibbons Spur. The purpose of the line was to service the Washington Brick & Lime Company in Bayview and the International Portland Cement Company in Lakeview as well as passengers and tourist from Spokane to Lake Pend Oreille. The passengers then could make a trip by steamboat to Sandpoint or could stay overnight at the Bayview Inn. Bayview became an official town in 1910. The railroad ceased operating its line after the Limestone and Cement industries closed, but later in 1941 the railroad was used to service the Farragut Naval Training Center. There is so much more history in the area to read about and explore. Enjoy the short trail or take a “history” trip into Farragut State Park and visit the Brig Museum.
