July 2011 Meeting/Event
Please make plans to
attend the July event for some fun in the sun and kayaking on
Georgia's Broad River.
We will be meeting at the Broad River Outpost. The
Broad River Outpost (BRO) is about 23 miles North East of Athens
Georgia. BRO provides kayak and canoe rentals on the Broad River.
For more information on the Broad River Outpost and directions you
can visit their WEB site at broadriveroutpost.com
We have a group discount of $15 per person/kayak, plus a $1
donation to the Broad River Watershed Association, for $16 total
per person/kayak. To learn more about the Broad River Watershed
Association go their website at BWRA.org
Or, if you want to use your own kayak, it is $5
for shuttle service, plus $1 for the BRWA. $6 total for shuttle
service per boat.
We will be meeting at 12 Noon in the BRO parking
lot for the GGA meeting. The river trip will start at 1:00. We will
split into two groups. One group will do the upper Broad River, and
the other group will do the lower Broad River. Both trips will be 3
to 4 hours long.
Kids of any age are welcome, younger folks or
beginner kayakers will be encouraged to do the upper section where
the river is calmer (but, you will still get wet). The standard
rental kayak is a sit on top kayak. Tandems or canoes are available
if preferred, although the $16 per person remains the same even if
you have two people in a boat. Please note this in your will attend
log so we can try to make a reservation for this.
Coolers are allowed on the river. They must be solid (no Styrofoam)
and have lockable lids. No alcohol or glass containers are
allowed.
Please bring a folding chair for the meeting.
This is the busy time of year for the Broad River Outpost. You will
need to pre-pay to ensure there is a boat available for you for
this trip. You can make a reservation by pre-paying the thru GGA
for your trip. There is a Paypal button on the GGA WEB site to make
your reservation. The GGA will keep the BRO updated on how many
folks have made reservations. The BRO will likely book up and run
out of Kayaks probably two weeks before the event. So, if you do
not have a reservation by June 25th you might be out of luck. I
will post when they are booked up and we are no longer taking
rental reservations.
To make a reservation or for more information
about the GGA, please see our website at www.ggaonline.org, or join a
discussion on our forums.
