Geocache Description:

Known locally as 'The Church in the middle of the road', St John's church was planned as a place of worship for the new township of Morris Town by Sir John Morris.

The first church was here as early as 1789 but was a temporary building. The current building dates from 1857. Sir John Morris was a copper factory owner after which the town is named. The name was later shortened to Morriston. The town was built to house the workers of the tinplate and copper factories nearby. Sadly the town is not as prosperous these days with many empty shops and the church is now in the centre of a roundabout and is no longer used. The cache is wheelchair and pushchair accessible although care should be taken as it is near a busy road. There is ample parking nearby.
