I’ve been admiring these sculptures every time I drive by here, on whatever journey I’m on at the time. It is so kewl for a small town to do something like this! I’ve often thought of putting caches at them, so other people could see them, too. This trip I did it...enjoy!
There are six large sculptures placed along this walking path. They represent some of the prairie flowers found in this compelling landscape: Shooting Star, Fiddleneck, Yellow Bells, and Blazing Star. The Potato Flower and Wheat sculptures are a tribute to the crops that exemplify Connell’s continuing farming heritage.
As you encounter the sculptures along the path you will notice that each sculpture has a nameplate with both a botanical Latin and common name to identify the plant species.
These sculptures are hand forged steel, by Jean Whitesavage & Nick Lyle, 2009. (Washington State Arts Commission in partnership with Coyote Ridge Corrections Center – City of Connell.)
The walking path is .89 mi from end to end. You can park at either end, and also in the middle.
As I arrived at these first 2 flowers, 3 youngsters were hitting the sculptures hard with rocks. I just HAVE to wonder sometimes!
