Geocache Description:

A park and grab at Duntroon. Duntroon was established around an accommodation house opened by James Little in 1864. The village was named after the birthplace of Robert Campbell who was born in 1843 at Duntroon, Scotland. He came to New Zealand in 1860 and quickly established himself as a major land owner and built a magnificent 30 roomed Scottish Baronial limestone mansion in 1876 at nearby Otekaike. The small town expanded to service nearby Campbell Estate and other estates in the area. Duntroon has preserved some of the more unique aspects of its past in a restored gaol and blacksmith's forge. It is also home to the Vanished World Centre and Maori rock Art just 2km from the village as well as being a departure point for the Elephant Rocks and Danseys Pass. The cache is a 50Ml screw capped tube with log book only BYOP.
